Abigail Johnson is Director of Theological Field Education and an ordained minister of The United Church of Canada. Born in England, Abigail immigrated with her family in 1967 to Montreal. Following a passion for music, Abigail trained at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, and became a freelance violinist for 10 years. Active in her local congregation, she sought further vocational clarification through Master of Divinity studies at Emmanuel College. Having served in several congregations, she pursued

Doctoral studies at the Toronto School of Theology with a focus on ministry of the laity and engaging lay people in theological reflection. In addition, Abigail pursued an interest in educational ministry, becoming a supervisor of interns and teaching the Ministry of Supervision course for The United Church of Canada. Serving on Presbytery Education and Students committee, Conference Internship committee and General Council Ministry Vocations committee increased an interest in vocational and supervised education that led to the Field Education position at Emmanuel College. Through this interest, Abigail has had the opportunity to serve as a member of OATFE (Ontario Association for Theological Field Education), CCATFE (Canadian Caucus for the Association of Theological Field Education) and on the Steering Committee for ATFE (Association for Theological Field Education). Her research interests are theological reflection, ministry of the laity, congregational leadership and educational ministry. Abigail lives in the East End of Toronto with Brian, a High School music teacher as well as Maggie (the beloved pooch), Wellesley (the aloof cat), and the raccoons that invade the garden pond.
