Professional Development Benefits: Staff Tuition Waiver

Degree Courses and Programs
Description  Reimbursement Amount Eligibility Process to Apply
Eligible University of Toronto degree courses and programs have waived or reimbursed tuition fees. These courses and programs are listed below:

The maximum waivers for each eligible program are as listed below.

Note: Reimbursement is pro-rated for part-time staff.

Victoria University's appointed staff includes:

  • Full-time staff
  • Part-time salaried staff working more than 8.75 hours per week
  • Part-time hourly staff working more than 10 hours per week

To request a staff tuition waiver, please complete the USW and Non-union Staff Tuition Waiver Request Form and submit it to Human Resources at vic.hr@utoronto.ca for approval.

All waiver requests must include a copy of your ACORN invoice.

Undergraduate degree courses, diploma programs, and certificate programs. The maximum waiver is up to the current Arts and Science course tuition fees.    
Part-time graduate-level programs and doctoral studies. The maximum waiver is part-time program tuition fee or $3,000 per academic year, whichever is less.    
Courses taken as part of the academic bridging program. The maximum waiver is 100 per cent reimbursement of tuition fees.    
Courses taken as a special student. The maximum waiver is 100 per cent reimbursement of tuition fees.    
School of Continuing Studies at U of T
Description Reimbursement Amount Eligibility Process to Apply
Includes a maximum of four courses per academic year. The maximum waiver for job-related courses is $750 per course. For personal interest courses, the maximum waiver is $350 per course.

Victoria University's appointed staff includes:

  • Full-time staff
  • Part-time salaried staff working more than 8.75 hours per week
  • Part-time hourly staff working more than 10 hours per week

To apply for a staff tuition waiver, please complete the USW and Non-union Staff Tuition Waiver Request Form and submit it to Human Resources at vic.hr@utoronto.ca for approval.

After the waiver is approved and signed, employees can attach it along with their registration form to the School of Continuing Studies.

Educational Assistance: Courses Taken Outside of U of T
Description Reimbursement Amount Eligibility Process to Apply
 

The following courses are eligible:

  • Individual skill improvement courses related to the staff member's current job or jobs in the same field.
  • Courses of study that lead to undergraduate certificates, diplomas, or degrees.
  • Individual unrelated courses will also qualify if they are part of an eligible certificate, diploma, or degree program.
 If a job-related course is completed at a recognized educational institution, 50% of the tuition will be reimbursed. Victoria University appointed staff includes: 
  • Full-time staff
  • Part-time salaried staff working more than 8.75 hours per week
  • Part-time hourly staff working more than 10 hours per week

For part-time staff members, the funding is pro-rated based on their part-time appointment.

 

Staff members should speak to their manager to inquire about approval.

According to the collective agreement, USW staff members should take courses on their own time, outside of regular working hours.

U of T Learning & Leadership
Program Information Eligibility & Process
U of T Learning & Leadership  The U of T Learning and Leadership Center offers training and professional development resources for Victoria University staff, including virtual and instructor-led courses on various skills and competencies. The courses and programs are available online for Victoria University-appointed staff and faculty and can be found here. To register for a course, access the University of Toronto LMS platform here using the login credentials sent to you via email from "U of T SuccessFactors". If you encounter any problems accessing the LMS, don't hesitate to get in touch with Human Resources at vic.hr@utoronto.ca.
LinkedIn Learning
Program Information Eligibility & Process
 LinkedIn Learning

 

LinkedIn Learning is an online LMS course database that offers thousands of virtual courses and learning programs.

 

A limited number of licenses are available for Victoria University full-time and part-time staff and faculty to access the LinkedIn Learning platform. Those with active licenses can log in to the LinkedIn Learning platform using their UTORid, which is available here.

If you have not used your LinkedIn Learning account for more than three months, your account may be temporarily deactivated. If you encounter any issues accessing the LinkedIn Learning platform or require access, please contact Human Resources at vic.hr@utoronto.ca.
