Hoarding went up in the Goldring Student Centre this week, the first visible sign of construction to create a student-focused hub on the east wing of the second floor.

The hub will bring together in one place all student services—the Office of the Registrar and Academic Advising, the Office of the Dean of Students and the Victoria College Writing Centre. Spaces will also be created where students can study, mingle and rest.

During construction, the second floor of the east wing, including the Regent's Foyer and the Regent's Room, will be closed.  Construction will be substantially completed by August 2024 in time for the fall semester.

Building the student centre is one of the signature projects in Victoria University’s 10-year Capital Plan. The others are a major revitalization of the Birge-Carnegie Building, the transformation of Victoria College Chapel into a multi-purpose room and the creation of an Indigenous Healing Garden at Emmanuel College.

The Capital Plan is intended to guide the revitalization of Victoria University's historic and beautiful campus to better serve students, advance the University's academic mission and provide an inspiring sense of place for the community. While the  undertakes this work, it will also be conducting a comprehensive planning exercise to help build a vision for the future of Victoria University’s campus and neighbourhood.

Preliminary work has begun in Birge-Carnegie and the Victoria College Chapel to prepare for construction; more substantial and visible work will begin in May. Check back for future updates about the work taking place and where people are moving as a result.
